1st International Symposium of the Research Cluster 'Cognitive Vitality'
On February 16th and 17th, the research cluster "CoVitality" of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg invited to the first international conference on "Cognitive Vitality - The Brain in its Body" at the Dorint Herrenkrug Parkhotel in Magdeburg. The coordinators Prof. Dr. Emrah Düzel, Prof. Dr. Stefan Remy and Prof. Dr. Aiden Haghikia welcomed 140 interested visitors from Germany and abroad.
The research aims to find out which neural, somatic and social factors determine cognitive vitality. The understanding of neurocognitive circuits, their resources, susceptibility to internal and external stressors and their ability to regenerate should be translated into real preventions and interventions. Cognitive vitality is to be used, mobilized, protected and improved in order to lead an independent and self-determined life in the long term.
On Thursday afternoon, the international advisory board of the project met for the first time and evaluated the research concept. The social relevance of the topic was assessed with great approval. A networking evening followed. Among the guests were the Rector of the University of Magdeburg, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Strackeljan and State Secretary for Science Thomas Wünsch, who emphasized the importance of the research project within the framework of the federal and state governments' excellence strategy.
On Friday, 20 renowned scientists gave lectures on the topic of cognitive vitality and presented their research results. The complete program can be viewed at covitality-symposium.de.
With this event, the joint project got off to a successful start and was able to strengthen cooperation with other universities and industrial partners.
