MISSION

We are increasingly dependent on staying mentally fit for a long time. The Cognitive Vitality research initiative is taking up this challenge. You can find out who we are and what drives us on the following pages.

WHAT IS COGNITIVE VITALITY?

Who we are

The Cognitive Vitality research initiative has set itself the goal of minimising the consequences of declining mental performance for society, the healthcare system and each individual. The combination of numerous expertises beyond the neurosciences and the research location Magdeburg gives us an almost infinite toolbox to grow beyond ourselves and to tackle the problem of cognitive impairment holistically. We create a network of researchers, independent and university practitioniers, patients and subjects. We link basic research and application-based interventions across transdisciplinary boundaries and combine the most innovative technological infrastructures with cross-species models. The ability to link and transfer scientific knowledge from mice to non-human primates to humans is unique.

Our scientific successes are expected to create a paradigm shift in medicine and revolutionise the approach to cognition. But also the creation of new expertise, above all future experts, will ensure the sustainability and innovative strength of 'Cognitive Vitality', for a gain in quality of life and perspective for us all.

What we stand for

Our values

CONVERGENCE

We combine cognitive neuroscience, clinical medicine and technology to understand circuits of higher cognition.

DIFFERENT SCALES

We determine the fundamental multiscale principles that govern the mobilization, enhancement,
plasticity and reserve of neurocognitive circuits underlying cognitive vitality.

DIFFERENT MODELS

The transferability of our scientific research results between different model organisms (mice, non-human primates, humans) is crucial.

IMPACTS

We take public relations work seriously and sensitise people to the topic of cognition. We influence structural change in Magdeburg on many levels.

SUPPORT

We are committed to equal treatment of and further training for young scientists and are convinced that diversity helps us move forward.

Our mission

What we do

It is fact that a healthy mind can only thrive in a healthy body. If the body is not healthy, the mind also suffers. Factors such as physical illnesses, surgical side effects and environmental influences can have a lasting effect on mental performance. The consequences for those affected, our society and the healthcare system include cognitive loss, inability to work or the need for care. 'Cognitive Vitality' is dedicated to solving these problems. We study the mechanisms that lead to cognitive impairment. We develop prevention and treatment measures that strengthen mental performance and mobilise unknown potential. For a paradigm shift in medicine.

Our vision

What we want

The brain is an incredible, irreplaceable organ. That's why we use our unique capabilities to understand and protect the way it works. Our vision is to help shape a society in which cognitive health is attainable and maintainable for everyone. We want to be a role model for a holistic approach to cognitive dysfunction and the interaction of body and environment.

How do our brains, our bodies and our environment interact? How do physical illnesses affect our mental performance? And why are we more efficient on some days than others?
We would like to get to the bottom of these questions together with you. Register now and take part in exciting studies.
